As a way of illustrating the importance of storytelling to understanding people’s struggles, and in connecting people across social differences, UVA Students read fiction with Prof. David Edmunds.

Whatever Global Development is, it has to account for the stories people tell about themselves and their communities. In Development of the Ground, we read creative works alongside theories and case studies in the hopes of understanding, in intimate and personal ways, what lives people want to live, and how they are pursuing these visions of a good life. 3rd years Philip, Maanasi, and Grace read Persepolis, Marjane Satrapi's story of her childhood in 1970s and 1980s Iran."

Enroll in GDS 3100 – Development on the Ground with Professor David Edmunds for the Fall 2023 semester. The class will be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:00 pm to 3:15 pm in Monroe 118.
