2022 Aigrain Grant Recipient - Mariam Hossaini

Miriam Hossaini (GSMS '23)

"My experience with the Aigrain grant truly speaks to the endless possibilities that this scholarship offers students." After receiving the Aigrain Scholarship last Spring, Miriam planned to travel to Cairo as part of a research team studying informal sabils with professor Tessa Farmer, where she would also be workign with Athar Lina, a participatory conservation initiative in Cairo. After many unexpected and unfortunate events, Miriam was unable to travel to Cairo and a paid, virtual internship was not within the budget of the conservation initiative. Thanks to the Aigrain Grant, Miriam was able to work with them from halfway across the world! Read about Miriam's research journey in full here!

Ben Ross (GDS '24)

Ben was awarded an Aigrain scholarship through the global studies department to research indigenous perspectives on mental health and sustainability in coastal Kenya this summer. "I look forward to returning to Kilifi, Kenya to continue building relationships, learning from Kenyans, and practicing my Kiswahili. Since I joined the major last year, I have had the opportunity to take courses that not only interest me but also contribute to my interdisciplinary study of the legacies of colonialism in sub-Saharan Africa, including in history, polictical science, sociology, and more." - Ben Ross (pictured above with his friend Josephat Mutinda in Narobi)
