Ingrid Hakala is the director of UVA’s academic Global Internships programs in the Education Abroad division of the International Studies Office. Ingrid manages and instructs across a wide portfolio of programs located in Africa, South America, Asia, and Europe; all offer students the opportunity to connect their practical experiences of international work with critical approaches to intercultural engagement, globalization, and travel abroad through Global Studies courses. She completed her doctoral degree at UVA in the anthropology of education and has conducted fieldwork on the intersection of ethnic politics and local schooling in post-conflict Nepal.
