Steve Parks

Democratic Futures Project; Professor of English, A&S

Biography

My academic work focuses on the relationship between public narrative, political rights, and participatory social movements. Over the past decade, this work has led to my working with democratic and human rights activists in the Middle East and North Africa on research and activist projects. Among the results of this collaboration are my my co-founding Syrians for Truth and Justice (stj-sy.org), a human rights documentation projected centered in Istanbul and Paris; The Twiza Project (twizaproject.org), an alliance of MENA region university professors dedicated to supporting dialogues on human rights which recently published Equality and Justice: An Engaged Generation, a Troubled World. The work has also resulted in Revolution by Love: Emerging Arab Youth Voices, an oral history of Arab Spring activists on their past, current, and future work as well.
